Weddings, Expos, and Websites....Oh My!

Again it seems to be forever since we've last blogged, and again, we have A LOT of news for you!

Since we last updated you, we've been to The Vineyards with Michele & Dan, another stop at the Brentwood Country Club with Sherrita & Darrell, the Huntington Harbor Club with Gabriella & Eric, another trip to the Crest Hollow Country Club with Joy & Peter, and of course, our completely AMDA planned Land's End wedding for Sharde' and Jake.  Somewhere in there, we even got involved in a wedding in Hawaii!  Laura's "cousin-in-law" got married at the beautiful Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa on the island of Kona.  Although a guest at the wedding, Laura was put to work by the bride explaining to the bridesmaids the proper way to walk down the aisle and also making sure that the bride's gown was always properly bustled.  A fair price to pay for a gorgeous vacation!

Also during our blogging hiatus, our very own Shauna celebrated her one-year wedding anniversary in Mystic, CT.

Now we have another two VERY busy months ahead of us.  We are completely booked solid every weekend from now until the end of October.  We're about to introduce ourselves to several new venues and vendors, and return to some of our favorites.  But first, be sure to come see us at the LIWeddings.com Bridal Extravaganza at the Huntington Hilton!  We'll be one of the very first tables you stop at, and have some wonderful things to give away!

Finally, our new website should be up and running soon.  Be sure to check back to find out when we go live!

Bring on Wedding Season!

It's been almost two months since we last blogged and we apologize.  However, we have a great excuse!  Wedding season is officially among us and AMDA has been the busiest we've ever been!

A gorgeous Memorial Day Weekend brought wedding bells for Eloise and Mike at the Riviera in Massapequa, Carina and Mike at the DeSeversky Center, and Tara and Kevin at the Stewart Manor Country Club.

June came and went with another trip to the DeSeversky Center with Anney and Marco, who celebrated on the one-year anniversary of our very own Laura's wedding day and then a fully customized wedding at a gorgeous home in Southold, where Jamie and Mike danced their hearts away during a beautiful beach wedding.

Bring on July, our busiest month of the year to date.  We started the 4th of July weekend celebration right with Cindy and Sameson's orange and pink themed evening at the Floral Terrace.  The following weekend was packed.  We found ourselves at the Brentwood Country Club with Maria and Fred, another evening at the Riviera at Massapequa with Chantelle and Matt, and then topped off the weekend at Westbury Manor with Angela and Dan and also at Chateau Briand with Lana and Johan.

Next weekend, we work a very special wedding for a very special client.  Our favorite "sweet" person, Jeanne from Afresh Approach, has hired us for her very own son and daughter-in-law's wedding at the Vineyard Caterers.  We'll be there with some of our favorite vendors, including our favorite baker Marney from Marneycakes, and of course one of our favorite DJ's, Phil from After Hours.

After that........VACATION!  AMDA staff will be going on vacation from July 16-23.  No worries though!  Phone calls and emails will still be answered, we will just be holding off on meetings.

Finally, on a more sentimental note.  We wanted to take a minute to thank all of our wonderful past, present, and future clients.  We were recently informed that we have been Wedding Wire Rated for 2011!  It's because of YOUR wonderful reviews that we can obtain such an honor, and we appreciate the help!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Rain Rain Go Away!

They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck.  I'm convinced that's just to make the brides feel better about something completely out of their (or our) control.  But let's hope it's true, and if so, Linda and Miguel are going to have amazing luck in their marriage!

It started with a gorgeous day at the historical Vanderbuilt Mansion in Centerport.  Laura and Nicole arrived early to scope out the area and get a feel for how the day would run.  When the rental company arrived, we set up all 100 chairs in the spiral formation that Linda had requested, to be topped off with rose petals in the center.  We set up the welcome table for the guests in the courtyard, and directed everyone to the Great Lawn for the ceremony.  Linda was gorgeous in her wedding gown, with her bridesmaids adorned in beautiful purple chiffon.  Then, just as Vito Genna began to play, the clouds came over and it began to sprinkle.  No big deal, a little rain won't hurt us.  The bride and groom recited their vows surrounded by their guests under umbrellas, and then everyone made their way up to the Reflection Pool for cocktail hour.  Meanwhile, Laura, Nicole, and the staff of Tip of the Tongue Catering were setting up the tent for the reception.  As we packed up all 100 chairs from the ceremony site to transfer them to the tent, the skies opened up and it began to rain as if the "rapture" was really happening!

We scrambled to get things done as soon as possible, when we were told that cocktail hour was being moved to inside the tent - yes, the same tent we were setting up for the reception!  Our work instantly doubled as now we had to re-set cocktail hour AND complete the reception set up, while guests frantically ran in the pouring rain to find cover.  Amazingly, no one seemed to care, not even the bride and groom!  Everyone was too busy enjoying themselves to allow the chaos behind the scenes to bother them one bit.

Of course, once cocktail hour ended and the reception began, the skies cleared and the sun came out again.  It's the only way it could be.  But we have learned our lesson - always be prepared to think on our feet, and ALWAYS have extra paper towels!

It's Officially Busy Season!

It's been a while since we've updated you on all AMDA related information.  The good news is, it's officially wedding and party season and our calendar is looking full!  The bad news is, as a result, we don't get to share with you as often!  So here's an update:

After the LIW Extravaganza, April flew by with the first couple who used our combined DOC/Photobooth package, Diane and Anthony at the Crest Hollow, and then a trip back home for Shauna to Jericho Terrace for Agnes & Shawn's big night.

Next was the start of a busy month of surprise parties for us.  Laura helped plan a surprise 35th anniversary party for her in-laws, and then a surprise "30+1" birthday for her husband.  We contracted Marneycakes, Inc for cakes for both of these, knowing fully that Marney would LOVE the idea of "cake espionage" as she calls it.

We also spent a day at Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown for Nicole & Matthew's special day.  It was a LONG day, with lots of travel, but it was certainly well worth it.  Nicole's family, (the same family as our former client Erica, the two brides are sisters) is absolutely wonderful and a pleasure to work with.

Now we prep for a completely customized wedding at the Vanderbilt Mansion next weekend, and then a busy busy Memorial Day weekend with Eloise & Mike at the Riviera, Carina & Mike at the DeSeversky Center, and Tara & Kevin at the Stewart Manor Country Club.

What a Night!

For the past few weeks, we've been working hard in preparation for the LIWeddings.com Bridal Extravaganza. Last year's Extravaganza was attended by over 600 brides-to-be, so we knew we couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of this amazing event.  Well, it was certainly all worth it.  We had such a wonderful time, and met some amazing brides and grooms-to-be.  We also ran into some of our favorite vendor friends like Afresh Approach, After Hours Entertainment, and Skyline Orchestras.  Now having been on the "other side of the table," we can certainly appreciate how much planning and effort goes into this incredible evening.  You can be you'll see us there again in September!

AMDA Goes City Chic!

As most of you know, we do the majority of our business on Long Island.  It's more convenient for us, as well as our clients, especially when we factor in the number of extra meetings we attend.  But when we were asked to do a special favor for a family friend, we jumped at the opportunity to work at Manhattan's amazing Tribeca Rooftop for NYPD Detective Joe and his blue-eyed beauty, Erica.  From day one of working with Erica, she was accommodating and wonderful to work with.  Giving us more and more information with every email, phone call, or text, it was becoming obvious that this wedding was going to be a night to remember.  And that it was.

We greeted the blushing bride and her parents as they exited the antique Rolls Royce to make their way down the aisle at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic church - the oldest standing Catholic building in New York.  After exchanging vows, Erica and Joe traveled around the streets of Tribeca with their bridal party to find the most unique locations for photos.  Finally it was time to head to the hall.  Tribeca Rooftop, standing at 13 stories tall, offers amazing photo ops from the actual roof of the building overlooking all of the Big Apple with the Empire State Building lit up just in the distance.  We can't wait to see what the photographers were able to do with this unbelievable canvas.

For now, we offer you pictures of our gorgeous couple, their incredible floral arrangements provided by Atlas Floral Decorators, and everyone dancing to the beat of Faze 4 Orchestra's Play by Play.

Weddings, Anniversaries, and Birthdays....Oh My!

It's been a while since we've checked in here, and we have so much to update you on. AMDA is in full effect for 2011! We've been booking up like crazy and our year officially starts this weekend with our "Lucky in Love" couple Jackie & George for their poker-themed wedding at Floral Terrace. Following that, we move on to sleek, chic and modern, with Erica and Joe at Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan.

We're especially excited for a special client in July. Our friends Jeanne and Skip from Afresh Approach have contracted us to take care of their son and future-daughter-in-law's big day!

We'll be introducing ourselves to several venues for the first time, such as the Tappan Hill Mansion, DeSeversky Center, Land's End, and Timber Point Country Club. But we also can't wait to go back to some old favorites like the Crest Hollow Country Club, the Riviera, the Swan Club, Shauna's favorite Jericho Terrace, and of course, Laura's favorite, the North Ritz Club.

In the meantime, we're helping to plan a surprise 35th anniversary party, as well as a surprise 30th birthday party, both with the help of one of our favorite bakeries, Marneycakes! Finally, we'll also be participating in LIWedding.com's annual Bridal Extravaganza on April 4th!

We knew 2011 would bring big things to AMDA, we just didn't realize just how big they were!

"Why Do We Need You????"

Since we've started this blog, we've been telling you all about the weddings and events we've been working, as well as our special promotions. But we've never actually explained what the ladies at A Modern Day Affair DO for you. We figured it's about time to do just that......

We are constantly meeting brides and grooms who ask us this very question: "Why do we need you? Can't we just do it ourselves?" The answer: Of course you can. But do you want to?

We here at A Modern Day Affair believe your day should be just that – Your Day. More often than not, it seems the host or hostess of an event is the person who gets to enjoy it the least. You put all of your time and effort into planning and when the day comes, you’re so caught up in the details that you don’t even get to enjoy it like you could. A Modern Day Affair prevents exactly that. Our purpose is to ensure that every detail of your event is executed as planned, so you can enjoy it as much as your guests.

From the moment you join the A Modern Day Affair team, we treat your affair as if it were one of our own.  Whether you need someone to help you coordinate your affair from start to finish, or you just need that extra eye for the day of, A Modern Day Affair is here to help. We offer complete and partial planning services for all types of events, large and small. We will work with you in the days leading up to your event to go over your vendor contracts and details as well as any special requests you may have. We coordinate with your vendors in advance to assure that the day runs smoothly. On the day of your affair, did you forget something at home? No worries, we’ll run back and get it for you. Are your vendors running late? We’re on it. Did someone spill wine on your new dress? We’ll get it out. Our goal at A Modern Day Affair is to allow our customers to feel like a guest at their own event. We do the work so you don’t have to.
