Rain Rain Go Away!

They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck.  I'm convinced that's just to make the brides feel better about something completely out of their (or our) control.  But let's hope it's true, and if so, Linda and Miguel are going to have amazing luck in their marriage!

It started with a gorgeous day at the historical Vanderbuilt Mansion in Centerport.  Laura and Nicole arrived early to scope out the area and get a feel for how the day would run.  When the rental company arrived, we set up all 100 chairs in the spiral formation that Linda had requested, to be topped off with rose petals in the center.  We set up the welcome table for the guests in the courtyard, and directed everyone to the Great Lawn for the ceremony.  Linda was gorgeous in her wedding gown, with her bridesmaids adorned in beautiful purple chiffon.  Then, just as Vito Genna began to play, the clouds came over and it began to sprinkle.  No big deal, a little rain won't hurt us.  The bride and groom recited their vows surrounded by their guests under umbrellas, and then everyone made their way up to the Reflection Pool for cocktail hour.  Meanwhile, Laura, Nicole, and the staff of Tip of the Tongue Catering were setting up the tent for the reception.  As we packed up all 100 chairs from the ceremony site to transfer them to the tent, the skies opened up and it began to rain as if the "rapture" was really happening!

We scrambled to get things done as soon as possible, when we were told that cocktail hour was being moved to inside the tent - yes, the same tent we were setting up for the reception!  Our work instantly doubled as now we had to re-set cocktail hour AND complete the reception set up, while guests frantically ran in the pouring rain to find cover.  Amazingly, no one seemed to care, not even the bride and groom!  Everyone was too busy enjoying themselves to allow the chaos behind the scenes to bother them one bit.

Of course, once cocktail hour ended and the reception began, the skies cleared and the sun came out again.  It's the only way it could be.  But we have learned our lesson - always be prepared to think on our feet, and ALWAYS have extra paper towels!

It's Officially Busy Season!

It's been a while since we've updated you on all AMDA related information.  The good news is, it's officially wedding and party season and our calendar is looking full!  The bad news is, as a result, we don't get to share with you as often!  So here's an update:

After the LIW Extravaganza, April flew by with the first couple who used our combined DOC/Photobooth package, Diane and Anthony at the Crest Hollow, and then a trip back home for Shauna to Jericho Terrace for Agnes & Shawn's big night.

Next was the start of a busy month of surprise parties for us.  Laura helped plan a surprise 35th anniversary party for her in-laws, and then a surprise "30+1" birthday for her husband.  We contracted Marneycakes, Inc for cakes for both of these, knowing fully that Marney would LOVE the idea of "cake espionage" as she calls it.

We also spent a day at Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown for Nicole & Matthew's special day.  It was a LONG day, with lots of travel, but it was certainly well worth it.  Nicole's family, (the same family as our former client Erica, the two brides are sisters) is absolutely wonderful and a pleasure to work with.

Now we prep for a completely customized wedding at the Vanderbilt Mansion next weekend, and then a busy busy Memorial Day weekend with Eloise & Mike at the Riviera, Carina & Mike at the DeSeversky Center, and Tara & Kevin at the Stewart Manor Country Club.
